Equitable Life of Canada announces the election of two new Board Members

Equitable Life of Canada is pleased to announce the election of two new members - Les Dakens and Laura Formusa - to its Board of Directors.

Les Dakens has more than 30 years of experience working in human resources, and is currently Senior Vice-President and Chief Human Resources Officer for Maple Leaf Foods Inc. Prior to joining Maple Leaf in 2011, Les was the principal of a human resources consulting firm through which he provided executive-level coaching to human resources leaders of many leading Canadian companies. Previously, he held senior-level human resources roles at various top-tier organizations.

Les currently serves on several boards of directors, including the boards of the Alzheimer's Society of Toronto, the Lake of Bays Marine Museum and Walden House.

Les holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University and is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors' Directors Education Program. He is also the author of two successful business books: Switchpoints, Culture Change on the Fast Track to Business Success and Employee Performance Scorecards.

Laura Formusa has more than 30 years of experience in the utilities industry and served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Hydro One Inc. since 2007 until her retirement at the end of 2012. She joined Hydro One (formerly Ontario Hydro) in 1980, and took on roles of increasing responsibility, including Vice-President, General Counsel and Secretary. 

Laura has served on several boards throughout her career. She was a Director of Hydro One and also served as Chair and Director of Hydro One subsidiary Boards. She served on the Board of the Canadian Electricity Association, and also on the Boards of the Banting Research Foundation and DHX Media Ltd.

Laura is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and was called to the Bar in 1980. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from York University's Osgoode Hall Law School in 1978, and holds the Institute of Corporate Directors Designation.
